An Answered Prayer

This TV film is a new episode in an ongoing series which feature a “Pilgrim”, a man travelling from place to place in England, meeting people in need of spiritual guidance.

This episode, he meets an elderly woman who lives on her own in a cottage, with only her bitter memories of past mistakes and a bad marriage to keep her company.

She doesn’t feel the need for forgiveness, but over the course of an afternoon, as she talks, and remembers, she reaches once more for the light, and returns to the church from which she has been estranged for many years.

For this I wrote a bucolic and folky theme for the Pilgrim, along with a variation, and then two themes for the woman – one to do with her memories, and the other to do with her dawning realisation of her need for forgiveness.
