Recently I’ve been trying to improve my presence on the web. That’s important if I’m going to make my work more accessible and well-known. One blog I read recently suggested that every artist (and musician, I’m sure) needs a sign of their brand, a logo if you like. So I sat down and designed one based on my initials, which happen to be ART.

I wanted it to almost be an ambigram. It’s not quite one, as you’ll see if I turn it upside down.

But I hope that there is some suggestion of the letters ART in the upright version.
I played around with the idea of creating a logo based on how I sign my paintings, which looks something like this…

But I decided against that. I prefer the fluidity of the new circular logo. I may even have to start using it to sign my work!
I also wanted something which would stand for my work, both musical and artistic. And there is something slightly musical I think in the circular design. My wife also suggested that I get my T-shirts printed with the logo so I look like a superhero. That helpful suggestion will not be followed up on. Probably…
Next, I needed to bring a distinction between my art and my music. So I simply selected the black areas as a mask in my photo-editor, and painted them red.

This then echoes the red accents in the title of the music part of my website…

Pop on over to my website to see how I’m beginning to make use of these logos.
