Portraits are one of the hardest things to paint, yet also one of the most rewarding. With a landscape, it doesn’t greatly matter if a tree is in slightly the wrong place, nobody notices. But if you put a nose or an eye in the wrong place in a portrait, it rather detracts from the likeness (unless, of course, you are Picasso). But get a portrait right, and somehow you capture something really special.
